Frequently asked questions
What is Wheeleo®?
The Wheeleo® is a next-generation mobility device for people that experience difficulties with walking and standing. Looking like a combination of a wheeled walker and a walking cane, the Wheeleo® contains 4 key features that improve a person’s autonomy, safety and mobility.
• One-handed. You only need one hand to get the support you need. The other hand is free for opening doors, calling you loved ones or holding a bag.
• Smart design. The compact, convertible design allows you to walk through narrow places or take it with you in your suitcase. The elegant look won’t make you look old.
• 4 touching points. No need to lift the device thanks to the 4 wheels always in contact with the ground. The Wheeleo® enables movement with a continuous flow. Infinite support,
without you even noticing it.
• No brakes. The Wheeleo® provides you safety during steady and unsteady times. Risk of
falling? Significantly low. The absence of brakes allows a fluid walk.
Does the Wheeleo® have brakes?
The Wheeleo® has no brakes, and more importantly, doesn’t need brakes. The device is easily controlled, enabling the person to stop and walk at a desired pace.
Thanks to its rolling design, the Wheeleo® will always be placed in the right position for its user. When losing balance, the user will automatically push the Wheeleo® in the right position that is comfortable for him, without lifting the Wheeleo®. Adding brakes would be the same as replacing the Wheeleo® with a regular cane because the brakes would block the wheels. As a consequence the Wheeleo® would tilt and its user would possibly fall.
Reason why the Wheeleo® gives more stability during the walk.
Does the user risk getting carried away?
No. To move the Wheeleo® sideways you have to make a sideways movement. If you make the same movement with a conventional cane, it will tip over and fall. The Wheeleo® will move without tipping. It positions itself where its user needs it most to maintain its balance. If you stumble, you will naturally position your hands to catch yourself. It is exactly the same
principle with the Wheeleo®.
When do I use the Wheeleo®?
The Wheeleo® is designed to be used indoors and outdoors on even ground. It is therefore important to pay attention to the quality of the ground. Many parks, shopping centres and pavements allow the use of the Wheeleo®.
It is important that the wheels can turn freely. The size of the wheels makes it possible to negotiate small obstacles. For larger obstacles or places where the wheels cannot turn freely, it is sufficient to lift the Wheeleo®.
Is the Wheeleo® reimbursed?
At the moment, the Wheeleo® is not yet reimbursed by the social security in Belgium and France. It is however reimbursed in Luxembourg.
On the other hand, there are financial aids proposed by the AVIQ in Wallonia and by the PHARE in Brussels for the acquisition of the Wheeleo®. In both cases, it is necessary to be in order of registration and to be less than 65 years old to be eligible. It is advisable to contact these organizations to obtain the most up-to-date information. Do not hesitate to ask your insurance company for more information.
